About Extend

Founded in 2019, Extend provides AI-powered post-purchase automation solutions, product protection, and shipping protection. Building on its early success as an add-on for Shopify merchants, the company expanded its reach and now serves major retailers across multiple sectors, including furniture, electronics, jewelry, automotive parts, and more.

Extend strengthens customer trust and streamlines retailer operations with product protection and automated claims processing. Its latest AI-driven SaaS platform helps businesses optimize claims, returns, and fraud detection, creating a smarter, more efficient post-purchase ecosystem.

The Challenge

As Extend’s business grew, so did its cloud infrastructure. The company built its environment almost entirely on AWS using serverless architecture, which minimized idle costs but introduced new challenges. Managing visibility and predicting costs became more demanding as Extend added AI workloads. They needed reporting that went much deeper than AWS Cost Explorer.

"For security reasons, we had to restrict access to a small DevOps team, but we needed broader cost visibility without compromising security. AI workloads can spike unexpectedly based on demand. Without real-time monitoring and alerts, we risked significant cost overruns." Rami Leshem, VP of Platform Engineering, Extend

Why Vantage

Extend evaluated multiple cloud cost management platforms, but a majority of them use percentage-based pricing tied to potential savings, which doesn’t align with the company’s serverless architecture. They needed a cost-effective, flexible solution that provided detailed visibility without unnecessary overhead. Vantage delivered with flat-rate pricing, granular reporting, real-time alerts, and seamless integration beyond AWS.

"Most vendors pitch cost savings based on eliminating idle compute. But in a serverless environment, we don't have idle computing. We needed a solution that was cost-effective, flexible, and provided detailed visibility without unnecessary overhead." Rami Leshem, VP of Platform Engineering, Extend

The Result

You build it, you own it

With Vantage, Extend’s engineers were given direct visibility into their cloud spending, reinforcing the company’s culture of ownership and accountability. Self-service access to cost data meant teams no longer had to rely on DevOps for reports or approvals.

"Adoption of Vantage exceeded our expectations. Engineers genuinely want to see the impact of their optimizations, and Vantage provides them with the tools to do so in real time." Rami Leshem, VP of Platform Engineering, Extend

Strong Adoption and Value of Vantage’s UI

Vantage quickly became an essential tool at Extend, not just for DevOps but across the company’s engineering teams. Its clear, intuitive interface made it easy for engineers to monitor their own cloud costs and respond to changes without additional training or workflow disruptions.

"If a tool doesn't provide value, people won't use it. The fact that we have such adoption is because A) it brings value and B) it's easy to use. Otherwise, we wouldn't see this at all." Rami Leshem, VP of Platform Engineering, Extend

Cost and Efficiency

Real-time Slack alerts ensured teams could catch spending anomalies early and take immediate action, reducing unnecessary costs. By automating cost monitoring, Extend freed up DevOps to focus on strategic infrastructure projects instead of fielding budget questions.

"Vantage allows our engineering managers and software directors to stay on top of new development costs. They can create alerts based on what they need to track, so they get the right information at the right time." Rami Leshem, VP of Platform Engineering, Extend

Greater Focus on Innovation for Customers

For Extend, efficiency isn’t just about reducing costs—the ultimate goal is accelerating innovation. With automated cost monitoring and real-time insights from Vantage, teams can focus on advancing AI-driven post-purchase solutions instead of managing budgets. Extend can experiment, iterate, and scale with fewer operational bottlenecks and greater visibility.

"Extend is growing quickly, and we're constantly evolving our technology to better serve merchants and their customers. Vantage ensures we stay proactive, allowing our teams to focus on innovation rather than chasing down costs." Rami Leshem, VP of Platform Engineering, Extend

The Future of Vantage and Extend
