Today, Vantage announces support for Linode from Akamai Connected Cloud costs in the Vantage console, allowing Vantage customers to track costs incurred from Akamai alongside their other infrastructure providers. Customers can add any number of Akamai accounts from the Integrations page, and Vantage will automatically ingest and visualize the costs accordingly.
Many customers use Linode to run specific workloads outside their primary infrastructure provider. In order to see a complete view of running an application, it is necessary for teams to see their Linode and AWS/Azure/GCP costs on the same Vantage report. This was previously possible through Vantage’s custom cost upload, but required extra manual work to retrieve and format the data. Akamai bills customers through invoices, typically on a monthly basis; however, there is no native FinOps reporting experience within Akamai, and invoices typically cover last month’s usage. This makes cost allocation, reporting, and budgeting difficult to manage.
Now, with the launch of Linode costs support in Vantage, customers can grant Vantage access to their Linode billing data by providing a read-only API key. Once access is granted, Vantage parses invoice line items and service-specific API responses to ingest the data into the platform. Line items include usage-related costs, discounts, credits, and tax. Vantage allows you to filter and aggregate the Linode data along with other infrastructure providers that are integrated in Vantage. With this data, users can see the combined costs for their entire application deployment in a single view. Linode resources will be represented as Active Resources in Vantage, which allows customers to view resource-specific metadata and associated costs. Additionally, the Vantage Kubernetes Agent supports installation in Linode Kubernetes Clusters, providing detailed insights into real-time cluster resource utilization and cost allocation.
This integration is now available to all Vantage customers. To get started, navigate to the Integrations page in the console, and select Linode. To learn more about how to get set up, see the Vantage documentation.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is being launched today?
Today, Vantage is announcing support for Linode costs. Vantage users can now connect Vantage to their Akamai accounts using a read-only API key, and costs will automatically be ingested and visualized within Vantage from the corresponding account. Vantage will query Akamai daily for new invoices to ensure data is always up to date with what Akamai makes available.
2. Who can use Linode costs in Vantage?
Any Vantage customer that uses Linode services can use this integration.
3. How much does this integration cost?
There is no additional cost for Linode support; however, Linode costs will be included in quota tier enforcement. In the event that your Linode costs push you over your current tier limit, you may be prompted to upgrade. To see more details on pricing, please refer to the Pricing page.
4. How does the Linode integration in Vantage work?
Vantage uses a read-only API key to ingest Linode usage, costs, and discounts as invoices become available, and additionally uses service-specific APIs to enrich cost data with additional resource-specific metadata.
5. Does Vantage have write access to my Akamai account?
No, Vantage cannot perform writes to your Akamai account. Vantage is only able to see metadata associated with your usage.
6. What dimensions can Linode costs be filtered by?
The following filters are available on Linode Cost Reports:
- Service (e.g., Node Balancer)
- Charge Type (e.g., Usage)
- Category (e.g., Linode Instance - Compute)
- Subcategory (e.g., Linode Instance - Dedicated 16GB)
- Resource ID (specific ID for a given resource)
- Tags (Virtual Tags created in Vantage)
7. Will historical cost data for Linode be available?
Yes, when following the integration setup, you will be configuring six months of historical cost data from Linode.
8. Are there any active resources available for Linode?
Yes, the following resources will be available for reporting in Vantage:
- Linode Instances
- Linode Kubernetes Engines
- Volumes
- Object Storage
- Images
- NodeBalancers
9. Will Linode costs be represented in the Overview page?
Yes, Linode costs are represented in the Overview page and present in the Provider Summary widget.
10. How long will it take for my Linode cost data to be present in the Vantage console?
Costs will be ingested and processed as soon as you add the integration. It usually takes less than 15 minutes to ingest Linode costs. As soon as they are processed, they will be available on your All Resources Cost Report.
11. How often does Linode data refresh in the Vantage console?
Linode data refreshes daily in the Vantage console; however, new data is available only after a new invoice has been generated by Akamai, which is typically monthly. When using the Vantage Kubernetes Agent, estimated costs will be based on real-time usage and updated daily in Vantage.
12. What happens if I remove a Linode integration?
If you decide to remove your Linode integration from Vantage, all costs associated with your Akamai API token will be removed from the Vantage console.
